CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMITS
Permit Procedure

In order to apply for a concealed weapons permit, a proper application must be completed, along with your successful completion of an eight (8) hour course of CCW instruction and proof of firearm competency provided by an instructor approved by the Sheriff.

The cost of this course is set by the instructor. Verification of successful completion must accompany your application. Applications are provided via the link below or at the front desk of the Sheriff’s Office located at 911 E. Musser Street. A fee of $100.25 must be paid at the time of application in the form of cash or money order made payable to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

A detailed investigation, to include fingerprinting, is then required to determine mental history, criminal record and general background. The investigation process could take up to approximately 120 days.

Renewal Permit Procedure

In order to apply for a renewal, a proper application must be completed, along with your successful completion of a four (4) hour shooting course by an instructor approved by the Sheriff. The cost of the course is set by the instructor. Verification of successful completion must accompany your application. A fee of $65.25 must be paid at the time of application in the form of cash or money order made payable to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

• Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: Appointment only from 8:30am-4:00pm
• Tuesday and Thursday: Walk-ins from 8:30am-10:30am; Appointment only from 1:00pm-4:00pm
